Your choice of outerwear in Texas will depend much on the weather and your impression. Most events in Texas will not require a heavy mantle; usually a shawl or paletot will be enough.

Shawl
Women's shawls were made from different materials including silk, lace, wool and cotton. Shawls can be woven or knitted. Not only worn for warmth, shawls were also an accessory.

Paletot (pal-toe)
A paletot is a short, loose, informal coat. The length can be just below the hips to mid-calf. Made of silk or wool, a paletot can be trimmed with fabric, braid, or fur or left plain. Closures include buttons, hooks and frogs. Unlike a mantle, the sleeves of the paletot are set in.
