Achieving the physical appearance of a civilian in Texas during the Civil War takes time and research. It is suggested that before working toward a physical impression you develop your "story"--at least the minimum of who you are, your age, where you are from, where you live, and your social status. This background information will determine your "look". Information about developing an impression can be found on the Developing an Impression page.

This section, provides basic information to begin building the look of a Texan during the Civil War. You will find information about fashions, outerwear, underclothes, headwear, hairstyles, facial hear, accessories, fabric and fabric patterns. There are also pattern suggestions and links to recommended suppliers of items you may need to fill out your impression.

The information on these pages is intended to illustrate what would be appropriate for Texas during the Civil War; however, it is not intended as a sewing guide. If you require assistance with constructing your garments there are several very good websites and forums listed on the Resources page. Also, feel free to contact the site owner if you would like recommendations as to where to look for assistance.

Please use the links above to navigate this section.
