Henkel Square in Round Top, Texas has agreed to host such a gathering.
Henkel Square is fairly central for most in central Texas. The site includes a church and barn, which have electricity, air
conditioning and heat; easy access to water; and plumbed toilet facilities. Although the gatherings are only single day events,
the rest of the structures on the site are available for overnight stays as wanted. Meeting at Henkel Square will also serve
to help the site meet their educational goals to maintain their non-profit status.
This is an informal and unstructured event. There are no officers or dues.
There are no set themes or projects unless a request is made for information or assistance on a particular subject. Individuals
may arrive and leave at anytime during the scheduled hours and attend as many or as few of the gatherings as they wish. Individuals
do not have to work on a project; they may attend just to visit.
The Grange gatherings are open to all Civil War era living historians, women,
men and children, regardless of impression.
First person is not required; however, this would be a good place to practice
if you wished.
Period wear is optional but recommended as Henkel Square will still be open
to the public and having us there in period clothes will add to the visitors’ experience.
As the Grange gatherings will most likely be held on days that Henkel Square
is open, the public may be invited to join our activities as safety concerns allow; however, this is not a demonstration event
nor will participants be docents for the site.
There is no charge
to attend unless the personnel and/or gear for a particular activity that is to be experienced cannot be obtained without
a fee.
